Since the kids were out of school yesterday, we drove about half an hour down the freeway o do some shopping. Before leaving, I asked my daughter to take notes of any unsafe driving that we saw. She noted a few things that were outstanding (tailgating, talking/texting while driving, and straddling two lanes) both on and off the freeway.

Perhaps the biggest hazard was also handled most safely. Near home, an oncoming truck crossed into our lane while turning into a construction area. He needed the space, did it the safest way he could, and I slowed to allow him the time and space he needed.

What was interesting to me wasn’t so much what we saw, but that since my daughter was taking notes, I found myself making an extra effort to be cautious. I guess I need to also remind myself that, even when nobody is watching, I still need to …

Be Safe!
